`In the rhythm of nature - or dancing in the footsteps of the gods
Haitian-Oriental Fusion Dance

Early bird price until April 30th, 2019

Conductor: Zsuzsa Parrag - Live percussion: Claude Saturne & friends

This dance retreat invites you to immerse yourself in the rhythms of nature, dance to feel its forms and thus find your way intuitively into movement. We enter the realm of instincts, draw from the unconscious - play with ecstasy, impulse, transformation and the powerful symbolism of ritual dance gestures in order to finally create our own neo-archaic dance. We are inspired by myths from antiquity and archetypal Haitian deities, which have many parallels to Greek mythology.

Suitable movements from contemporary oriental and ritual Haitian dance will accompany us and can be experienced in a completely new quality. The elements that surround us are also central. We surrender to the rhythm of the waves, connect with the earth and let the wind carry us.
Afro-Haitian dance - a brief explanation & more about the content of the lesson

Haitian dance is still a relatively unknown form of dance in Europe - regardless of this, it is one of the most diverse dance cultures in the Caribbean. His movements are of strong symbolic expressiveness and intensity. Their origins are mostly in the healing rituals of Vodou - a religion that is still deeply misunderstood to this day. Within Haitian dance there are many different styles of very different characters, which are accompanied by specific rhythms and touching chants. We will learn some songs together.

During the retreat we will deal with the flowing movements of the Yanvalou dance, among other things. A style that is assigned to the element of water, with snake-like figures that reflect the rhythm of the waves - sometimes gentle and restrained - then again wild and impetuous. You can also look forward to the healing-meditative dances from souvenans, one of the largest vodou temples in Haiti, which I will teach comprehensively for the first time. Souvenans follows its very own tradition and is home to dances, rhythms and songs that cannot be found anywhere else in Haiti.

At this point this is just a small excerpt - look forward to much more in an environment that couldn't be more ideal for these dances ...

The workshop will be accompanied musically and sensitively by Claude Saturne & Friends.
